I was doing some reading about Scottish tartans when i browsed into a website that allows you to create and register your tartan with Scottish Tartans Authority.
I started to flirt with the idea that i can design a Tartan and register it as McWang Tartan- and have every Wangs (or its variations - Ong (hokkien), Wong (cantonese), Heng (Teochew)) to own a Scottish kilt with this tartan design. and then these folks will form a pipe band, and then parade as the McWang Clan in some big highland games..... and then when people asked these folks about the history of this tartan, they gonna give credit to a man called "Nigel McWang".
The idea is kinda crazy, put i entertain it anyways, thinking that i have pretty much nothing to do, and that it will make a good entry to my weblog (which hasnt been updated for a while).
So, i first selected the colours, Gold, red, blue and white. The Reasons:
Gold - Wang translates into 'king' in English, so Gold depicts the Royal colour.
Red - Most country that hosted a population of Wangs have red colour on their flags (China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Phillipines, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, maybe France). so the colour pay respects to these countries for nurturing the McWangs, and also to represent that McWangs come from all over the world.
Blue - The thing that connects these McWangs colony is the sea. thus the blue. It depicts the hard work and sacrifice of the previous McWangs that travelled across the sea from China in search of the Dream, to pursuit their own happiness and prosperity.
White - Honesty
After much hard work and tweaking, this is the final work.
Hows that?
Ive sent an email about registering this tartan. i doubt that it will be free of charge, but it its do free, hell yea, ill register this tartan, and even make a kilt out of it!
oh yea, just in case if some of you people asks why the 'Mc' in McWang, the 'Mc' actually means 'Son of'. so its natural for me to be called McWang, since my dad is mr.Wang
